Subject Description

Various exercises and activities designed to consolidate year 12 linguistic skills, enhancing both fluency and accuracy. Speaking: class discussions on topics of social, cultural and political significance, role plays and short presentations. Aural comprehension: understanding authentic audio-visual materials including films, development of listening accuracy. Writing: grammar revision and development, composition, translation. Reading skills are enhanced primarily in a textual studies seminar introducing students to the work of some major 20th century French writers: de Beauvoir, Camus, Chraïbi, Prévert, Sarraute. By studying a range of genres (poetry, drama, short stories, extracts of novels), students develop their reading comprehension, and begin to develop skills in critical analysis.

Written and oral work equivalent to 1500 words, and a 7-minute oral test, and a 60-minute written language test, and a 60-minute textual studies test.
