 116-001 Beginners French IA

Note

Formerly available as 116-101. Students who have completed 116-101 are not eligible to enrol in this subject. Any student who has ever presented for year 12 French or the equivalent is ineligible for this subject. Students with four or five years of high-school French or the equivalent should enrol in 116-009 Intermediate French A and 116-010 Intermediate French B.

Four hours of language classes per week, including one hour of small group activities. Full attendance is required

Subject Description

An intensive language course for beginners, with a focus on the development of reading and writing skills, and an introduction to French culture through the materials used for language acquisition. Students successfully completing the course should be able to read simple French, and write accurately, within the limits of the vocabulary and tenses introduced in the course.

Assessment

Written work and class tests equivalent to 2000 words, and a 2--hour exam. Students who have attended less than 80% of classes will be ineligible to sit the exam.
