Subject Description

This subject is designed to take students from a knowledge of core Western Semitic, gained in part A, to a working knowledge of one of the Semitic languages introduced in first semester. Students will extend their vocabulary in the relevant dialect, discuss texts in their historical, literary and linguistic contexts and study the development of the corpus of relevant texts from the perspective of literary canons. This course will focus on historical (rather than literary or ideological) aspects of the ancient linguistic task.

Assessment

Regular exercises equivalent to 2000 words, and two 1-hour class tests.
