Subject Description

The subject consists of two 2-hour sessions each week. All classes are conducted entirely in Japanese. The reading materials used cover such topics as business/economics, history, law, politics, and so forth. The materials are taken from Japanese newspapers, the Internet and books such as 'shinsho' and 'Nihon no ronten'. Students will develop spoken skills through discussion and debates in class. Visitors from Japan, if possible, will be invited to give short talks on topics related to the reading materials.

Assessment

Assignments and quizzes totalling 1500 words, and a 2-hour examination, and a 10-minute oral/aural test for 3rd-year. Assignments and quizzes totalling 2500 words, and a 2-hour examination, and a 10-minute oral/aural test for 4th-year. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take examinations.
