A 1-hour tutorial and a 1-hour computer or language laboratory class per week

Subject Description

This subject complements and enhances Japanese 1A Core by developing the student's basic language acquisition through application of interactive multimedia tools. Emphasis will be placed on individualised use of computer-generated learning materials (i.e. students can allocate time they need to do each exercise) based on Japanese native speakers' natural discourse (e.g. materials from internet). Tools to be utilised will include word-processing (e.g. sentence writing, short paragraph writing), computer drills/activities (eg. word drills, kanji drills, reading comprehension using computerised dictionary), video software, and audio-visual materials (i.e. video clips from actual TV programs). The student will consolidate the language acquisition from the core subject, particularly in terms of listening comprehension, kanji recognition, and new language functions.

Assessment

Projects and assignments totalling 1000 words, and a 1-hour final examination. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
