Subject Description

An introduction to the materials and methods for undertaking research on China, primarily for intending Honours students. Students who complete this subject will gain a broad understanding of research methods and materials for both Sinology and contemporary Chinese Studies; great ease in reading Chinese materials in both the simplified and unsimplified scripts; familiarity with the basic structures, vocabulary and discourse forms of Classical Chinese; and knowledge of conventions for citing Chinese material in footnotes and bibliographies.

Assessment

Tutorial participation, and written work totalling 4000 words.
