Subject Description

This subject introduces students to cultural, social and political life in Taiwan. The island's historical background will be outlined, as well as anthropological and ethnographic studies of Taiwanese society. Students will gain some general familiarity with a regional approach to Chinese studies, and will also be introduced to Taiwanese reflections on the region's present diplomatic situation in a global context.

Assessment

Tutorial participation, and written work totalling 4000 words.
