Subject Description | A linguistic approach to Chinese. In this subject students will learn how to apply the principles of general linguistics to the analysis of Chinese; analyse some major linguistic characteristics of Chinese in the areas of phonology, morphology and syntax; conduct investigations on Chinese dialects; and transcribe Chinese material using the International Phonetic Alphabet. |
Assessment | A 2-hour examination, and assignments and homework totalling 2000 words. |
