Prerequisites

Standard Chinese 1B and Standard Spoken Chinese 1B, or the equivalent. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Standard Chinese Phonetics A, if they have not previously studied Standard Chinese 1B and Standard Spoken Chinese 1B.

Four hours of language classes per week

Subject Description

Advanced spoken and written Chinese. By the conclusion of this subject students will have built on the knowledge of Chinese gained in their first year and be able to read original Chinese material on current affairs as well as simple literary texts. They will be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on topics of general interest.

Assessment

A 10-minute oral examination, and a 2-hour examination, and written work totalling 2000 words.
