Subject Description

The Parthenon is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. This seminar investigates the full history of the building and its site: The architecture, sculpture, religious and economic meaning are explored in depth. Then the transformation of the Parthenon into a Christian church and an Islamic mosque is discussed. And finally we look at the Parthenon as a cultural icon, debating the problems of its present reconstruction.

Assessment

Written work totalling 5000 words.
