Subject Description

This subject examines the Egyptian and Near Eastern background to Greek artistic and architectural development from the 2nd Millenium BC to the end of the Hellenistic period (31BC); special emphasis is laid upon artistic technique and style, ancient building methods, the great building achievements of antiquity and the significance of Greek painting and sculpture; the subject concludes with an evaluation of the Greek artistic legacy up to the present day.

Assessment

Written work totalling 2000 words, and a 2-hour examination.
