Subject Description | This subject examines various forms of textuality and representation in medieval English writing, focussing on questions of knowledge, heresy and orthodoxy, cultural and literary authority, literacy, performance and subjectivity. A range of medieval prose, poetry and drama (some in the original Middle English, some in modern translation) will be read through contemporary critical and methodological debates in medieval studies, with particular attention to the possibility of a post-modern medievalism. No prior knowledge of Middle English is assumed for this subject. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 5000 words. |
