This subject introduces students to key nineteenth- and twentieth-century texts in Australian literature, focusing on the changing cultural meanings such texts secure in relation to issues of identity. Reading across Australia's literary history, this subject contextualises a number of significant concepts in contemporary Australian culture: the nation, the family, the citizen. Reading historic and contemporary texts, students will analyse literary representations of Australian identities.
