Subject Description

Is Australia postcolonial? What does it mean to claim a postcolonial identity? This interdisciplinary subject will enable students to understand important debates relating to the phenomenon of postcolonialism across a range of cultural texts and sites. Topics include: definitions of postcolonialism, the politics of identity and speaking positions, white ethnicity, globalisation, New Age environmentalisms and new primitivisms, museums and memorials, diasporic music and street styles, new regionalities, East and West entanglements, and the postcolonial avant garde.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words.
