 8. Institute Student Progress Rules

Students who pass 50% or less of the points attempted in any one year will be required to attend the Student Progress Committee for a determination of whether they will be permitted to continue in the course.

Students who pass between 51% and 74% of the points attempted will be required to see the Associate Dean (Coursework Programs & Learning) or nominee, before being permitted to re-enrol.

Students will not normally be permitted to enrol in a subject more than twice. Failure for a second time normally results in suspension from their course.

The Student Progress Committee/Associate Dean or nominee considers each student's case individually and each student is given the chance to explain the reasons for their poor performance, in writing and/or in an interview.

In some cases the Committee/ Associate Dean or nominee will allow students to continue with their enrolment, repeating failed subjects where appropriate. Restrictions may be enforced on enrolment, including the number of points studied in any one year. In some cases the Committee will recommend to the University's Academic Board that the student be suspended from the course.
