Subject Description | This subject examines the major developments in Spanish literature in the twentieth century, using the key nineteenth century novel by Leopoldo Alas "La regenta" as a point of departure. Students will be introduced to a broad spectrum of narrative techniques and themes prevalent in the key narrative works under consideration, and will also analyse contemporary dramatic texts. All of the texts will be studied within their socio-historical and cultural context. |
Assessment | Two 2,000-word essays and two tutorial papers 20-minutes each. |
Prescribed Texts | A reading list will be supplied in the first week of class. |
