Subject Description

This subject constitutes a more advanced level practical introduction to the Portuguese language in its Brazilian variety and to Brazilian and Portuguese culture. As in the case of 2P-1/3P-1, the student will acquire the language through a range of activities: language laboratory work, computer aided exercises, role play, pair work and through the study of Luso-Brazilian culture and society as represented in the cinema, television, radio and press of the Portuguese-speaking world. Students who complete this subject should: be able to understand, speak and write Portuguese at an initial intermediate level; and have an intermediate level mastery of grammatical structures.

Assessment

Aural comprehension and transcription exercises; reading performance and comprehension; oral production; written exercises; one 1500-word essay; one 2-hour written exam.

Reading lists will be available at the beginning of the semester.
