Subject Description

This subject is taught intensively by a La Trobe University staff member over six weeks during January and February in a Hindi speaking town in India. It is a consolidation of the language skills learned at first year level. Students will be encouraged to acquire fluency in spoken Hindi through informal contact with native Hindi speakers in addition to extensive formal classroom instruction. Informal contact is arranged by inviting local citizens, particularly students, to the classroom. Students are responsible for their own expenses.

Assessment

One 2000-word essay in Hindi, six 15-minute oral reports and one 3-hour examination. In addition, students in Hindi 3A are required to give an oral report on a novel to be read in the class. The essay is due after returning to Australia and the final examination will be sat shortly after that.

Prescribed Texts
