Subject Description

This subject teaches students the correct pronunciation of the sounds and to read and write the Devanagari script used in Hindi. It introduces students to the basic structures of the language and places the language in appropriate social and cultural contexts. This subject aims to provide students with a sound foundation in the language with particular emphasis on literacy, although attention is also paid to the development of oral skills.

Assessment

Weekly written exercises, one 1-hour oral/aural test, one 3-hour examination.
