Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to introduce students to:

  • the use of computers in agribusiness and farm management;
  • the nature, role, technology and functions of various hardware and software that form a computer system;
  • understanding the software development life cycle;
  • understanding the role of information technology in modern organisations;
  • develop skills in the use of operating systems including the Disk Operating Systems (DOS) and Windows;
  • develop skills in the operation of a word processor;
  • develop skills in the use of presentation graphics.

The content includes: Introduction to computer systems and their role and applications, computer hardware and the components of a computer system, data communications, security, accuracy and privacy, business applications of computers, word processing using MS-Word 6, presentation graphics using Harvard Graphics or Power Point.

Assessment

Two hour examination (70%); assignments (30% each).
