Subject Description

Students will be able to analyse short pieces using the principal methods of analysis, including linear analysis, and will have formed a critical perspective for the variety of analytical techniques available.

Topics include introduction to linear analysis of tonal music and a survey of the principal methods of analysing music.

Assessment

Regular analysis exercises (50%); end-of-semester project (50%).
