Subject Description | On completion of this subject students should be aware of the social and historical significance of the operatic genre through a study of selected works; be familiar with literature relating to the interdisciplinary nature of the genre as well as recent musicological research. The subject will cover an examination of some of the issues that relate to the interdisciplinary nature of opera alongside a study of selected works from the operatic genre with particular emphasis on their social and historical significance. |
Assessment | A three hour end-of-semester examination (50%) and an essay of up to 3000 words which will be presented as a 20-minute class paper during the semester (50%). |
