Subject Description

Students will develop a thorough technical background to cope with all stylistic demands; establish a sizeable concert repertory covering all styles; be able to show that the ability to manage stress will ensure sound concert presentation.

Areas to be covered include advanced study of concert repertory and all related aspects of music performance. In addition, classes in the repertoire and materials of the instrument.

Assessment

(a) A 40-minute recital examination at the end of year of an approved program of pieces and (for orchestral instruments) standard orchestral excerpts. Programs must be submitted to the Coordinator for approval not later than 1 May; (b) Students must pass a 10-minute technical examination (c) attendance - a minimum of 10 classes per semester - and participation (as determined by the coordinator) as a performer in Concert Class and Performance Class. Students must pass a) and b) to pass the subject.
