Subject Description

On completion of this subject students should have a working knowledge of the sources and principles of embellishment and other aspects of baroque performance practice and be able to realise these on their instruments. Topics to be covered include: a study of selected 17th and 18th century performance practice sources; practical instruction in the realisation of specific performance practice techniques.

Assessment

20 minute practical examination in the application of performance practice techniques to selected works (60%); 1500 word written assignment (20%); Participation in classes (20%).
