Subject Description

An advanced subject in labour law theory, dealing with the relationship between labour law and other relevant disciplines, including industrial relations, human resource management, labour economics and organisational behaviour. The content of the subject will vary from year to year according to changing priorities in research. The subject will be organised around certain key topics and questions including the definition of labour law, and its scope and purposes; the regulation of labour markets and economic analysis; competing models of labour market regulation; alternative analyses of labour market regulation, the regulation of internal labour markets, including employment security, employee participation and other procedural incidents (e.g. grievance procedures and performance appraisal). Workplace standards in health, safety and equal treatment. Convergence or divergence in national labour law models. International trade, and international standards of labour protection.

Assessment

Research paper 5000 words (100%).
