Subject Description | To introduce students to practical aspects of litigation including the nature of the adversary process and the role of the advocate. To provide students with an introduction to basic advocacy skills in the context of a trial including: Conceptualisation and presentation of a case; Opening and closing address; Examination in chief; Cross examination; General communication skills. To provide students with the opportunity of applying those skills in a series of performance workshops. |
Assessment | Each assessment will involve students performing a series of advocacy skills as follows: Lead evidence in chief; Cross examination; Deliver an address - either an opening or closing. Assessment of these tasks will include assessment of conceptualisation, preparation and communication. each individual task will be of approximately 7 minutes duration. |
