Subject Description

Landscape Construction: landscape site work, construction of roads, paths, walls, timber structures and irrigation systems; specifications. Site Engineering: levelling, site surveys, grading, drainage earthwork, road and path alignment. Students will be introduced to the typical materials and methods of landscape construction and site engineering - paving materials, masonry, timber, lakes, ponds, levelling, contour interpolation, grading, drainage, earthwork computations and so forth; production of construction plans, grading plans, layout plans and detailed drawings; costing of landscape works; and develop their own landscape technology data and detailed files.

Assessment

Assignments equivalent to not more than 4000 words. These may include a class test at the end of the first part of the subject. A two-hour examination at the end of the semester. Students will be required to demonstrate competence in both parts of the subject.
