Two hours of lectures and up to two hours of tutorials and seminars per week

Subject Description

Economic background to the building industry. Building as an economic process. Financial analysis of capital works. Strategic planning and accommodation decisions. Terotechnology, life cycle costing and cost benefit analysis. Depreciation and obsolescence and its effect on building value. Building asset and maintenance management. Building flexibility and adaptability. Development leases and construction and maintenance contract procedures. A basic understanding of financial mathematics is assumed.

Assessment

One two-hour examination (50%). Assignments totalling no more than 5000 words (50%).
