Subject Description

This subject explores the relationship between information systems implementation and organisational change, focusing on managing the change process. Topics may include techniques for organisational assessment and the role of sponsors, targets, change agents, and external parties such as consultants. The subject will be taught with a combination of lectures and tutorials. To allow significant individual and group project work, this subject is taken over a whole year.

At the completion of this subject, students should:

  • understand the relationship between information systems implementation and organisational change;
  • be familiar with some of the techniques of organisational diagnosis and assessment;
  • have explored the process of change in organisations, including resistance to change;
  • understand the range of actions that can be taken to facilitate organisational change.

Assessment

A 3-hour end-of-year written examination; individual projects; group project. The project work is expected to take up to four hours per week. Weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject.
