Subject Description

The themes of 610-340 Inorganic Chemistry III A will be further developed with a focus on:

  • electronic structure and photochemistry of metal complexes;
  • the structure of the solid state;
  • reactions of coordinated ligands, including aspects of asymmetric synthesis and the mechanism of action of metallo-enzymes.

The lecture course covers the topics in 610-340 Inorganic Chemistry III A in greater detail and with further focus on some of the aspects above.

Assessment

One 3-hour and one 2-hour written examination at the end of Semester 1. Practical work will be continuously assessed in the form of short reports. Satisfactory completion of the practical work is necessary before credit can be granted for this subject.
