Subject Description

Topics in the 18-lecture block common to this course and 610-240 Inorganic Chemistry II A will be developed with reference to topics drawn from environmental, biological, solid state and industrial applications of inorganic chemistry.

The subject covers the topics: metal chemistry: properties and reactions of metal compounds coordination complexes and organometallic species; main group chemistry: properties and reactions of non-metal compounds; bonding in polyatomic molecules; bioinorganic chemistry; the biological roles of the trace metals; structural inorganic chemistry; the structural basis of advanced materials.

Assessment

One 3-hour and one 2-hour written examination at the end of Semester 2.
