Subject Description

By the end of the subject students should comprehend and be able to explain:

• the fundamental concepts of virology, with particular reference to the replication, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis and control of viruses of humans;
• the biochemical and physiological mechanisms that underpin our understanding of these topics;
• the application of this knowledge and understanding of principles and mechanisms to the solution of everyday practical problems.

Assessment

A 3-hour end-of-semester written examination.
