Subject Description | This subject concentrates on the development, delivery and documentation of exercise classes for individuals and for special groups. It aims to promote the importance of physiotherapy input to preventative, health promotional and rehabilitative exercise and recreational activity in the normal population and in those with specific conditions. Objectives include the ability to advertise, organise and document an exercise class, the ability to plan and deliver exercise programs, and the ability to communicate with groups. The following areas are emphasised: group learning and motivation; effective exercise class presentation and teaching strategies; the role of physiotherapy in health promotion and maintenance of optimal health and fitness; fitness testing, strength training, injury prevention in exercise classes, aerobics, nutrition and dietary advice for exercise; exercise for special groups including children, asthma, cystic fibrosis, neurological conditions; elderly; cardiac; pulmonary; diabetes; arthritis; pregnancy. |
Assessment | Preparation, delivery and documentation of one exercise program comprised of class work (50%) and an assignment (50%). |
