Subject Description

The study of technological systems including aspects of mechanical and electronic systems, robotics, data logging and global communication and associated underlying scientific principles in the environmental and technological worlds relevant to primary children; the development of technological equipment and processes and their impact on the environment, for example, food production and processing, manufacturing, electronic systems, and technology and environmental change. A study of children's explanation of technological phenomena; identification of sources of teaching materials, equipment and resources appropriate to the primary school level. Project studies related to aspects of children's technological world demonstrating the underlying scientific principles. The structure and content of the science and technology key learning areas of the Victorian Curriculum and Standards Framework and major relevant International and National curriculum perspectives.

Assessment

Development of a project or model or teaching equipment related to an aspect of children's technological world demonstrating and explaining the underlying principles (1000 words); written reports of workshop activities (1000 words); a final 2-hour examination.
