Subject Description

An examination of curriculum issues in health and physical education through the Curriculum and Standards Framework. Practical workshops and seminars focus on primary school activities. Topics include motor learning; human sexuality and classroom issues; safety and challenge in outdoor education; introduction to nutrition; the health promoting school.

On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the various concepts and content outlined above, and to apply these understandings to the teaching situation.

Assessment

Hurdle requirement: Satisfactory participation and performance in seminars and practical classes is required for students to pass this subject.

Written assignments totalling 2000 words and a 3 hour examination.
