Subject Description

An introduction to the nature and scope of teaching and learning in health and physical education. Topics will include structure and function of the human body; growth and motor development; and human sexuality. Physical education main activity areas will be the focus of practical classes.

On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the functions of the human body and relate them to activities designed to promote and maintain good health. They should be able to demonstrate an understanding of children's physical growth and motor development, of the influences and issues in child and adolescent health, and of the complexity of human sexuality.

Assessment

Hurdle requirement: Satisfactory participation and performance in seminars and practical classes.

One 3-hour examination, and written exercises and assignments equivalent to a total of 2000 words.
