Prerequisites

Single Method: Completion of three years o approved University language study at post-VCE level. Students with other qualifications will need to be assessed by a language department of an Australian University as being equivalent proficiency.

Double Method: Single method requirements in two languages.

Subject Description

A study of concepts and practices in second language teaching and learning, with emphasis on developing teachers as reflective practitioners, capable of fostering in their students communicative competence in a new language and of making the experience of language learning an educational one. Students will be introduced to commonly used texts and materials and will be taught a range of techniques for employing them.

Content

A 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour workshop each week. For the double method there will be a second 2-hour workshop weekly.

Assessment

Single Method: participation in class including completing nominated class tasks; assignments totalling approximately 4000 words or equivalent for a practical assignment.

Double Method: assignments to be completed for both languages.
