Subject Description

While this subject is designed to provide students with an understanding of the current philosophies, structure, levels of support, and the methodology required to educate students with special needs in the regular classroom, particular emphasis will be placed on research-based strategies used in identifying and meeting the special learning needs of these students. These strategies will include developing advanced skills in assessment of children with disabilities, and in the application of applied behaviour analysis techniques. The steps in planning and developing an individual program for the learning needs of children with high intellectual potential, hearing impairment, language impairment, visual impairment, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and socio-emotional disabilities will be studied. Practical experience in the Department's Child Study - Learning Improvement Centre will be provided.
