Objectives

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • understand concepts and selected theories of social class, gender, sexuality and ethnicity;
  • compare theories of success and failure relevant to vocational education and training (VET);
  • examine perspectives on access and equity in VET contexts; and
  • evaluate major Government policies relating to access and equity.

Content

Social and cultural constructions of class, gender, sexuality and ethnicity; constructions and alternative definitions of access and equity in vocational education and training.

Assessment

Class paper of 1000 words (30%) and an essay of 2500 words (70%).
