Subject Description

This subject will explore the various management processes in a range of early childhood settings and the application of computer related technologies to these processes where applicable. Topics will include: a study of the procedures and principles involved in the negotiation of funding, the formulation of budgets, financial record keeping and the provision of financial reports; an examination of the administrative implications of government policy in relation to funding and management issues; an introduction to the basic administrative responsibilities involved in the enrolment of children, record keeping, staffing procedures, position descriptions, performance appraisal, employment records and rosters; monitoring utilisation; accountability to sponsoring authority. The application of computer related technologies in each of these and other areas of administration - including databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing; WorldWideWeb publishing; electronic communication and associated peripherals, computer models and operating systems; electronic storage, retrieval and security, proprietary administration packages.

Assessment

Essays and assignments totalling 4000 words, or equivalent.
