Subject Description

This subject is a study of a range of computer mediated technologies and multimedia applications which can be used in early childhood settings. Students will be introduced to a range of computer systems and applications. Hypermedia and multimedia applications, such as the LOGO-based program, MicroWorlds, will be studied in depth. Through in-depth studies students will gain knowledge of computer graphics; importing sounds, digital images and videorecordings into hypermedia applications; scanning images and their various formats and sizes, and sharing projects through the Internet. Graphic-based World Wide Web software applications will also be studied in-depth for potential use with young children and for professional activities. Data analysis applications appropriate to research in the early childhood professions will be introduced.

Assessment

Assignments and projects equivalent to 4,000 words.
