Subject Description | The objective of this subject is to develop an understanding of the principles and techniques of least-squares estimation in a variety of practical applications, and statistical testing and post-analysis. The mathematical model and linearisation, types and classification of models, the covariance law and the concept of weight, over-determined models and the application of the method of least-squares, parametric and combined adjustment cases, covariance analysis, error ellipses, statistical testing of least-squares results, constrained and sequential adjustment. |
Assessment | Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, and not more than the equivalent of 40 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject |
