Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to introduce the construction, geometrical requirements and use of surveying instruments and develop basic skills in plane surveying relating to engineering projects.

The construction, geometrical requirements and use of surveying instruments; methods of measurement; recording and reduction of field data. Engineering surveying including specifications, measurement of earthworks quantities and setting out. Introduction to specialist branches of surveying including geodetic, topographic and cadastral surveying. Photogrammetry and its engineering applications.

Assessment

Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, and not more than the equivalent of 40 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The examination may be held at the conclusion of the course. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject
