Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to introduce the basic theory and practice of plane surveying, including instrument calibration and presentation of technical information.

Plane Surveying: Plane surveying coordinate systems, linear distance measurement, differential levelling - instrumentation and calibration, electronic distance measurement, theodolite - measurements and calibration, 2-D and 3-D theodolite and distance traversing.

Communication: Study methods, examination techniques, types of written technical communication, oral presentation of material and use of library resources.

Assessment

Not more than three-hours of written examinations and tests and not more than the equivalent of 100 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject
