Subject Description

On completion students should; be able to use complex velocity potential analysis to solve a variety of inviscid flow problems including incompressible flow past airfoils; be familiar with theory of thin airfoils; be familiar with gas dynamics in subsonic and supersonic flow; be able to apply shock expansion theory to the solution of flow in a variety of situations including prediction of lift and drag of two dimensional bodies in supersonic flow; be able to apply Ackeret or linear theory to thin airfoils; be aware of viscous effects and boundary layer - shock wave interactions.

Assessment

One examination not exceeding three-hours: tutorials tests, assignments and laboratory reports not exceeding 20 pages
