Subject Description

The objective of this subject is for students: to understand the issues involved in the use of different programming languages; to understand the concepts and the state-of-the-art of computer-aided software engineering; to know some software testing methodologies and be able to apply them to carry out testing; to be familiar with the concepts of user interface design; and to understand the concepts and importance of portability, performance and release engineering.

The subject will build on the introduction provided by 433-341. Topics to be covered in depth will be selected from: programming language issues; CASE; testing; user interfaces; programming concerns: portability, performance; release engineering and configuration management.

Assessment

Up to three-hours of written examinations at the end of the subject. Project work, which is expected to take about 36 hours, must be completed satisfactorily to pass the subject. Weighting of assessment components will be made known at the commencement of the subject
