Subject Description

The major objective of this unit is to develop an understanding of the procedures and processes involved in the design of steel structures.

Topics covered include: Theory behind brittle fracture and fatigue of steel structures, design of steel connections. A major design project involving a steel structure.

Assessment

A 1.5 hour examination at the end of the Semester and laboratory work (30%), and a design project of approximately 30 pages (70%)
