Subject Description

At the end of this course, a student should be able to identify different forms of structural action and be able to carry our basic designs for simple structures in accordance with appropriate Standards.

Topics covered include: Analysis of determinate and simple indeterminate structures; structural properties of steel, concrete and timber; codes of practice; design of beams, slabs, columns, connections and trusses as applied to small buildings.

Assessment

One written examination not exceeding three-hours at the end of the semester, practical work
