Subject Description

At the completion of this unit students will have an understanding of the roles of design, investigation and construction practices in the field of construction engineering.

Topics covered include: Site investigation; Construction systems including foundations, cofferdams, earthworks, ground support, falsework and scaffolding, formwork, plant and equipment; Design aspects of construction systems, pavements and temporary works. Plant selection including earthmoving equipment, tunnelling, cranage; Construction Control.

Assessment

One written examination not exceeding three-hours (60%) Two 2000 word assignments or equivalent (40%)
