Subject Description | The objective of this subject is to give students an advanced knowledge of linear algebra and a grounding in the use of operations research in practical problems. Topics covered include: Part 1 Linear Algebra: Vector spaces in general, axioms, linear independence, basis sets, dimensionality, Rn and Cn, inner products, matrices of linear transformations, rank, inverse, solution of linear equations, numerical methods, Jordan form, Gershgorin's circle theorem. Part 2 Systems Analysis: Linear programming, integer, goal and non-linear programming, heuristics, dynamic programming, networks. |
Assessment | One written examination not exceeding three-hours at the end of second semester. Plus additional tests and assignments to a maximum value of 10% |
